Hospital Garcia de Orta Cardiology department will organize the 2019 edition of South Side of the Heart (25th to 27th of September) in Almada, a meeting to provide insights into recent advances in key areas of cardiology and an opportunity to share knowledge with national and international experts. This event will also integrate the collaboration of the Internal Medicine, Neurology and Neuroradiology departments.
This meeting will celebrate 20 years of primary angioplasty and ablation in our hospital and the years of innovation that have followed. This year´s meeting will focus on several topics related to the intervention in the area of the acute emergency syndromes: primary angioplasty in acute myocardial infarction, thrombectomy in high-risk thromboembolism and interventional reperfusion in stroke, as well as intervention in the field of arrhythmias.
South Side of the Heart 2019 promises to fill a gap in training in these areas of innovation, drawing national and international experts who stand out most in their chosen areas of differentiation.
Of eminently practical nature, on September 26th there will be a room dedicated to cardiovascular intervention, where five expert-oriented live in a box sessions will be presented, focusing on “fast-track” of primary angioplasty, thromboembolism and stroke, percutaneous intervention in stroke prevention and cardiac resynchronization therapy. These sessions will include not only the demonstration of the technical aspects of the intervention, but also the scientific evidence supporting it, in order to fulfill the educational objectives defined at the beginning of each session.
Arrhythmias in emergency department, prevention of sudden death and cardiac injury on the brain are topics that will be addressed in a parallel room during interactive sessions using clinical cases presented and discussed by cardiology, internal medicine and neurology.
Included in the program of the event will be two courses and two workshops on September 25th and the “Meet the Experts” will take place on September 27Th providing participants the opportunity to learn pratical issues about invasive haemodynamic evaluation through practical hands-on session.
The "Heading South" morning walk closes the program by promoting both cardiac rehabilitation and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.
South Side of the Heart 2019 will be a good learning opportunity to update our knowledge with renowned experts of national and international cardiology.
We look forward to welcoming you in South Side of the Heart 2019.
